The Sony FS100U is a professional-level, large-sensor video camera in a compact package. It comes equipped with the Sony E-mount 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 11x zoom lens. This lens features a quiet AF motor for cleaner sound recording and SteadyShot image stabilization with an advanced Active mode for steady handheld shots.
A rotating 3.5-inch XtraFine LCD panel and a slow shutter feature all make the FS100U comparable to other cameras in the S35 line. It can stand on its own in almost any application--from indie films to wedding videos--or it will inter-cut perfectly with the F3, F35, or SRW-9000PL as a second unit or B camera.
This camera shoots in full 1080p HD in a variety of frame rates--24p, 30p, 60i, or 60p. It will also record SD video in 720 x 480. Fast and slow motion video is possible by using the Slow and Quick Motion Function. This allows recording frame rates of 60p/30p/24p in 1080p and capture rates from 1 to 60 frames-per-second.
Memory Stick and SD memory cards are both compatible. In highest-quality 1080/60p format, a 32GB card stores about 145 minutes of video. This doubles when two cards are used. Lower resolution formats and frame rates use less card space.
Please note: When recording on different media, the resolution must be HD or SD. HD and SD cannot be simultaneously recorded on different media. An SD or Memory Stick PRO Duo card is not included with the camera. See below to add one or more to your rental. HD video recording requires use of a class 6 SD card or higher.
Software Compatibility
The FS100U records HD video in AVCHD format or SD video in MPEG-2 format. Check your software to make sure it supports these file formats or check for updates to see if a newer version of your software now supports them.
