Take control of sound and vision with the DCR-VX2100 3 CCD camcorder, offering the brightest video results of all Sony’s Mini DV models. With its Advanced HAD progressive scan CCD technology, illumination is improved. Delivers low light performance without the use of infrared technology. By increasing the CCD’s sensitivity to light, clearer video with more lifelike color can be captured.

Aspherical lens, dual position neutral density filter and advanced optical picture stabilization minimize image distortion. Additionally, the camcorder includes a built-in lens cap to protect the lens.

What kind of tapes do I need?

This camera uses Mini DV tapes. No tapes are included with the camera rental. You can buy them at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. Most Mini DV tapes hold 60 minutes of footage in short-play mode and 90 minutes of footage in long-play mode.

How do I capture and edit the footage from this camera?

This camera records to mini DV tapes. (Tapes are not included with your rental. Buy them at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.) After recording the footage, connect the camera via the included FireWire cable to your computer. (You will need a FireWire port on your computer.) Then use capturing software on your computer to transfer the footage from the camera over the FireWire cable and save it to a video file on your computer. You can use Windows Movie Maker or other free capturing software, or paid software such as Apple's Final Cut Pro. Once the footage is captured, use one of those same programs to edit your footage and make your movie!

Can I connect external microphones to this camera?

Yes. The camera has a built-in 1/8-inch stereo microphone input. Using that input you can mount a shotgun mic to the camera, or use one of our Sennheiser Wireless mic sets.

With the optional BeachTek XLR adapter (listed above on this page), you can connect one or two microphones with XLR connectors. This could include two wireless mic sets, a shotgun mic and a wireless mic, one or two handheld microphones, or a mic level input feed from a mixer.

Can this camcorder shoot in 16:9 wide mode?

Yes, that mode is supported. Use the camcorder menu to select that option.
