Workflow and Transferring Footage
After recording footage to a P2 card with a P2 camcorder, you’ll transfer the footage to your editing system, or at least to a computer for storage. The easiest way to do this is to connect the camcorder to your computer using the USB cable (PC) or FireWire cable (Mac). The camcorder will appear on your computer as a removable disk, and you can simply transfer the files to your hard drive.
It’s also possible to use a PCMCIA slot in a laptop to transfer the files. By inserting the P2 card in the PCMCIA slot and using the driver provided by Panasonic, the cards can be read directly without connecting the camera. This is useful if the camera is busy shooting and you need to offload one card while another card is in use.
Panasonic also makes portable storage devices and PC-connected reader devices, but those are not as likely to be used in a rental situation.
